Picking a Great San Mateo County Location

We tell home buyers to buy a home in the very best location they can comfortably and confidently afford. Naturally, this statement prompts a logical follow up question: What is a good location?

Five characteristics are typically associated with a superior location:
1. A quiet neighborhood without intrusive noise, such as heavy traffic or aircraft engines
2. A low traffic street – solid double-yellow lined streets are a red flag
3. A street absent of any ugly eye sores that tarnish the curb appeal of the home – high voltage power lines and large water tanks are some to watch out for
4. An area away from active railroad tracks, busy retail stores or venues like high school parking lots
5. A well-performing school district – buyers will pay premium prices to put their children into top-notch schools

Location is the single most important influence on value. An inferior location will restrict the home’s appreciation and hinder your ability to sell it.

Location is the key to how well you enjoy living in the home and how well it sells when the time comes. Never under estimate the power of location.
