Awhile back, I wrote this post on interviewing a listing agent and gave you some questions to ask before you choose a Realtor. Now I’ll go ahead and tell you what you should be looking for in their answers.
My 30 years in residential real estate has taught me that there are some real estate agents who are technically adequate, but lack the intangibles and there are agents that have the intangibles, but don’t have the technical expertise to get your house sold.
- Honesty – Candidly and directly tells the truth about everything
- Trustworthiness – Acts as your advocate and watches your back
- Competence – Possesses superior technical expertise and market knowledge
- Communication – Timely delivery of what you need to know
- Reputation – Respect among fellow agents and not just a recognizable name
- Loyalty – Your interests come first and ahead of all others, always
Don’t waste your time with agents that tell you what you want to hear instead of what you need to hear or make exaggerated claims predicting how much you’ll get for your home. In the end, these lofty promises will boil down to empty words and time wasted. By looking for the 6 characteristics above, you’ll set yourself up for success.
