You may remember our earlier post Citizens to Protect Redwood City Pledge to Fight Open Space Vote about the battle in Redwood City about the development of 1,433 acres of bayfront land owned by Cargill Inc. Well, the San Mateo Daily News has reported that City Council has now decided to put two measures on the ballot regarding changes to the city charter that would determine what would be required to have the land developed.
Environmentalist groups, including Save the Bay and Friends of Redwood City, put together a proposal which would require 2/3 of residents to approve any development on land considered “open space.” The city council proposed its own amendment which would only require a majority vote.
So, it looks like the two sides will be squaring off until November. We’ll keep you posted and you can tell us what you think!
