After reading that Atherton, California is the top neighborhood for first-time home buyers, you probably think there is no affordable housing in San Mateo County… the good news is that there is.

Here is our list of top neighborhoods for first-time home buyers in San Mateo County:

• San Mateo – Sunnybrae (Bayshore Fwy – Delaware – 16th – 5th)    
  
• San Mateo – San Mateo Village (Hillsdale – Bayshore Fwy – 40th – Pacific)
• Belmont – Sunnyslope (El Camino – Ralston – Cortland – South to Belmont City Limits)
• San Carlos – White Oaks, El Serano and Gover Oaks (El Camino – Brittain – Eaton – Cordileras)

All four of these areas are affordable, quality neighborhoods with generally good schools and amenities. They are also uniform, single family home areas, and have had a history of appreciation – making houses in these areas a strong investment.
