What is Important to You When Choosing an Agent?

how to choose a realtor

It seems like everywhere you look, real estate brokerages are launching “new ideas” to bring in customers in the down market.

This latest report comes courtesy of Inman News which is reporting that a Coldwell Banker office in Orange County is now offering free Wi-Fi and coffee to clients in their self-dubbed “entertainment conference venue.”

Articles like these beg the question, why do consumers really choose an agent? Are buyers and sellers looking for the agent with the best brochures or the one who does the most business in an area? Do they want someone their friends, or even dog, recommends? Or are they simply looking for the cheapest option?

It seems to me that the real ‘value-add’ of working with an agent as a seller is for property exposure and as a buyer is for negotiating expertise. So, wouldn’t you rather pick an agent based on what they can do for you, rather what your home sale or purchase can do for them?

I’d love to hear some reasons why people choose agents…anyone have ideas?
