Baywood

Baywood San Mateo home

Baywood sitting just south of San Mateo Park which is probably the penultimate neighborhood in the City; Baywood, however hardly a trade down.  Baywood screams status with well manicured yards, broad meandering – occasionally hilly – streets and timeless styles built mostly between 1930 and 1950.

What Type of Neighborhood is Baywood?

An eclectic mix of Spanish, Tudor, Colonial, Monterey, Moorish and Norman styles with even a few non-descript styles that defy characterization populate the neighborhood.   A fair share of substantial ranchers on typically smaller lot sizes – usually from 6,000 sq. ft. to 8,000 sq.ft. – are evident as well.

The neighborhood also has a relatively narrow district of pre-WWII apartments that grace El Camino Real.  Just to the south of the apartment and commercial district is the distinctly different and less up-scale neighborhood of Parrott Park built after WWII.

What’s Parrott Park Like?

More tract-like and not without its own charm Parrott Park is entirely flat, unlike Baywood, and somewhat less pricey.
