Westwood Knolls

Just north of Belmont on both sides of Alameda de las Pulgas is Westwood Knolls, one of San Mateo’s hilly areas.  The funkiness of Belmont changes abruptly as you drive north on Alameda into an orderly, homogenous 1940s suburb.

Westwood Knolls Expanded Up the Hill Post WWII

A classic development pattern emerges with modest ranchers of conventional design built first on the flatter lots closer to El Camino at the base of the hillside giving way to larger homes near the top along Alameda. Steep slopes inhibited construction until the post WWII boom when the housing demand exploded.
